It is often recognised that those who live in poverty will be very susceptible to poor health and dying whilst still young. Although this can be the result of disease, major improvements in the health and wellbeing of people can be achieved by relatively straightforward changes to the environment in which they live.

A number of years ago the charity sunk a 50m borehole, which for many years provided a clean and consistent supply of water. In the last couple of years that borehole dried up. We subsequently installed a new borehole, which serves Kivuvu camp. A second, disused, borehole was found near our second camp (Bukunya). This was reinstated last year to a fully operational condition.

Latrines were also installed in the two camps to prevent the spread of disease due to ill-disciplined toiletry practices. To control any misuse of the boreholes and latrines, and maintain them in both a useable and clean and hygienic state, we employ Joel.
