Education

Opening Doors to Opportunity

Education is the most effective way for young people in Kivuvu and Bukunya to break free from poverty. Because anything beyond basic primary school must be self‑funded, many families simply cannot afford it. Serve Africa steps in to remove that barrier and create real pathways to a better future.

Primary School

Kivuvu Primary School serves around 600 children from the Kivuvu and Bukunya camps. For years, most classes were held in old workers’ huts—cramped, dark, and poorly ventilated—with 60–70 children squeezed into each room. A new two‑classroom block has recently improved conditions, but resources remain extremely limited.

Serve Africa provides the essentials government funding cannot cover, including basic learning materials and a daily meal for every child and member of staff. To strengthen education, we fund two additional Maths and English teachers and support interns in the nursery class, which often reaches nearly 100 children.

This support gives every child a brighter, safer place to learn and the chance to thrive.

Secondary School

Serve Africa partners with Mbalala Secondary School, funding around ten students each year and supporting them through the years towards their exams. This investment builds confidence, belonging, and long‑term opportunity. Some students are now sponsored by UK supporters, with several progressing to diplomas and degrees. After GCSEs, we guide each young person into further study or vocational training based on their strengths and future prospects.

Your support helps keep a teenager in school.

Further Education

Serve Africa equips young adults with the skills and qualifications they need to build independent, sustainable futures. Alongside secondary education, we offer a growing range of training pathways designed to match real employment opportunities.

Training College

Our Training College was built with the support of generous donors and now offers practical courses in ICT, Catering, Tailoring, and Construction (registered for a national certificate). Some graduates have progressed to diplomas in Hotel Management and Construction, proving how transformative these opportunities can be. The college also welcomes fee‑paying students, helping move toward long‑term sustainability while keeping training free for young people from the camps.

Internships & Apprenticeships

We partner with local businesses to provide hands‑on apprenticeships in welding, car mechanics, and computer repairs. These placements have shown excellent long‑term outcomes, giving young adults real experience, confidence, and earning potential.

Diplomas & Degrees

For academically gifted students, Serve Africa supports further study in teaching, nursing, and administration. A small number have progressed through A‑Levels to university, where they are now excelling in Education and Medical Sciences.

Every donation helps a young person gain the skills, qualifications, and confidence they need to step into a brighter future.

Sponsorship

Sponsoring a student is one of the most powerful ways to change a young person’s future. For £35 per month, you can place a child from Kivuvu or Bukunya into four years of secondary education, carrying them all the way to their O‑Level exams.

Serve Africa aims to support 10 new students every year, giving each one the chance to learn, grow in confidence, and step into real opportunities beyond the camps.

If you would like to become a sponsor, simply enter your name and message in the form below. Your details will be sent directly to our team who will be in touch with the next steps.
